best dirt for flowering plants
VINCA transplanting, plant suggestions and SEED info- THANKS for any help you may be able to offer.?

I have a large (20’x20’), steep bank that I am going to plant vinca (with the blue flowers). I am transplanting a lot from a friend’s yard, and I am going to use seeds too.
The bank now is pretty nasty- bad dirt and tons of weeds; nothing has been planted there in years. What should I do to prepare the bank? I would like to just use round-up to kill all the weeds, but I don’t want to affect the new plant.

When is the best time to transplant the vinca, I live in central AL?

This is the first spring that I have lived here and am looking for suggestions of plants and flowers that are pretty hardy. I’d like to start them from seeds indoors. I need a good site to order the seeds from. I try to be environmentally conscious so that would be great!
Wow, I know this is a lot but I appreciate ANY help! Thank you very much.

Vinca is very invasive and you shouldn’t have a bit of trouble transplanting or seeding. I would think that if your friend has it in their yard right now then it will be okay to go ahead and transplant and seed. I would probably till up the area so you can start fresh and give the vinca a good foot hold. Be aware that vinca will most likely end up where you don’t want it so be prepared to pull vinca throughout the growing season.
